Bratz : Turning today’s little girls into tomorrow’s Paris Hiltons.

By: Alex Gwen Thomson

Seriously, take a look at a Bratz doll: Big, pouty lips covered in sparkly lip gloss, low cut shirts, midriffs exposed, fishnets, miniskirts, and enough eye shadow to make a Goth shed a tear in pride. Yes, these are clearly dolls that our children should be emulating. What ever happened to Barbie anyway? She may have been unrealistic, but at least she wasn’t some anime-eyed, disproportionate freak of nature. Produced by a toy company in southern California, Bratz dolls are the first real competition Barbie dolls have received since, well, ever.

One thing that is hard to understand is the plethora of Bratz games and dress up games. Little girls love dressing up their dollies, but I imagine that some of the appeal is lost when the process is reduced to a flat, on screen representation of the activity. I guess there is some benefit to having a large variety of accessories and clothing available to customize your doll, but…hey, wait, hundreds of different options, thousands of different combination's, right at your fingertips. Think of all the money M.G.A. (the company that owns Bratz) could be making on accessory sales. Well, I guess there is some benefit to having an online game, huh? Save a few bucks and all that. There are several games that you can play online, search for 'Bratz Games' on google and you will find thousands of websites with the games on them. www.w3games.org is one of the top websites where you can play free bratz games.

Dress up games just aren’t enough, though. Back in September 2007, THQ released Bratz: The Movie (the game). Bratz: The Movie: The game puts gamers in control of their favorite doll characters, encouraging them to dress fashionably, sing songs, publish a magazine, and pamper their cute little pets. If they really stand out, they’ll be invited to star in their own super-cool movie! Bratz is a phenomenon that is turning our nation’s little girls to be Paris Hilton.
